COMMUNITY
“I grew up in Katherine, in the Northern Territory, where life moved a little slower and stories were part of everyday life.
Some were shared around kitchen tables.
Others were discovered out exploring the river and red dirt, where the landscape had a quiet way of teaching me, if I was willing to stop and listen.
Looking back, I think that's where my curiosity began.
I didn't know then, that curiosity would become a career.
Over the years, stories have taken me from remote communities to television and radio studios, from red carpets and live events to classrooms, conference stages and quiet conversations.
At first, those experiences couldn't seem more different.
But they've all asked me the same question.
What shapes who we're becoming?
As a proud gay Wiradjuri fella who grew up in the Top End, I've come to understand that stories shape the way we see ourselves, the way we relate to one another, and the communities and spaces we help create.
Whether I'm interviewing someone for television or audio, speaking on stage, writing a children's book or simply sharing a conversation, I'm drawn to the human stories that make us laugh, challenge our thinking and remind us of what we have in common. Each other.
I think that's why I've spent much of my career listening, learning and sharing.
Because every story has the potential to leave someone a little lighter, a little braver or a little more understood. I hope mine can too.”
